What’s going on with Southold Town’s wireless service initiative?

On Monday, October 6, 2025 we asked Supervisor Krupski for an update on the Town’s wireless service initiative. Here is what he told us:

The lack of cell service is being addressed in the following manner.  Last year the Board hired a company, Citiscape, who is not affiliated with any carrier, to analyze town-wide coverage.  I did outreach to neighboring municipalities about our intent and because some also engaged the same firm,  we received a reduced rate for this analysis.  Last month the company presented to the Board the findings and recommendations. The company also conducted a poll to engage the community about specifics in lack of coverage, etc.   They are drafting amendments to our wireless code, working with our Planning Department this week on language.  This draft code amendment will go to code committee for review, before a public hearing will be set.

This will change the old outdated code to reflect physics and function.  The towers must be the correct height and location to provide for service, which answers the call for public safety.

Please reference the Town’s Zoning Update online, to follow the progress being made.
